Kawa Ebi with Furikake

Fried kawaebi (river shrimp) with furikake is another delightful Japanese dish that combines crispy fried shrimp with the flavorful seasoning of furikake. It makes for a delicious appetizer or a tasty addition to a meal. Here's a simple recipe for fried kawaebi with furikake:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup kawaebi (river shrimp), cleaned and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Furikake seasoning

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create the batter.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot to a temperature of around 350°F (175°C).
  3. Dip the cleaned and deveined kawaebi into the batter, making sure to coat them evenly.
  4. Carefully drop the coated shrimp into the hot oil and fry them in small batches for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Be cautious while frying to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  5. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried kawaebi from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Sprinkle furikake seasoning generously over the fried kawaebi while they are still hot. Furikake comes in various flavors, so choose your favorite or experiment with different varieties to find your preferred combination.
  7. Toss the fried kawaebi gently to ensure the furikake seasoning adheres to the shrimp evenly.
  8. Serve the fried kawaebi with furikake immediately as a tasty appetizer or as a delightful accompaniment to rice or noodles.

Enjoy the crispy and flavorful goodness of fried kawaebi with furikake!
